Set the course record at Alameda's Mif Par Three Golf Course

Set the Course Record

First off if you haven't had a chance to play the "pitch and putt" in Alameda then you are missing out. It is a
Here's the 2nd hole
treasure of a golf experience and it will challenge you at whatever ability level you're playing at.

Each week we've started a program for golfers to set the course record for their age group and gender. So for a week if you shoot the "low score" we'll take your picture, get your name and post that along with your score and date for others in your age category to beat.

Then each week we'll start all over again, giving everyone a change to get up on our "wall of fame".

Pitch and putt may be over simplifying what this golf course offers. The holes aren't 30 or 40 yards they actually range from 85-155 yards and the greens are shaped so there are no flat spots for better drainage. Marc Logan the golf course's designer, who I call the "grass whisperer", since he is truely one of the world's leading experts in growing any grass but especially bent grass

I may lose a few of you out there that aren't geeks about putting green surfaces, but I am, because any experienced golfer knows that bent grass greens are second to none for putting surfaces. Mr. Logan is going against conventional wisdom that he can grow and then maintain bent grass in Northern California. Alameda's golf courses are going to prove to everyone that he can with his systems.

We're already really excited the conditions at the new Mif par three and the our new chipping and putting. Come out and check them out and while you're out it keep your score because you may set the course record for the week!

Get Better at Golf Fast!

We're really excited about having a new launch monitor in Alameda (radar system that measures everything to do with impact with the ball and golf club).

And you know, if you can measure it, you can improve it

Step 1: These days I'm offering what we call "club-gapping" to get golfers excited measuring and how it will catapult you're game to another level.

In club-gapping you'll hit ten balls with the clubs you want to measure.  This will give us a direction and distance profile (notice the oval in the image below, this golfer's pattern is biased to the right of the target line).

Below is this golfer's ten drives. We can see a general shape of direction, spin and trajectory.

Step 2: At first most of these numbers won't mean much to you. I'll coach you decipher them so you can make the appropriate adjustments to create your desired ball flight because there is a formula for any ball flight you wish. Let's say for instance that you want a high draw with your driver, no problem, I'd have you swing 8 degrees right with your club path and have your club face four degrees left of that path. And for the desired heighth you'd hit it on the upswing two degrees.

Funny part is, I don't care how you do your formula and nor does the radar system. Of course if you are stuck that's where I can nudge you in the right direction :)

Step 3: A few repeat trips to instill your feel-with-what's-real. And then boom, you're calling your shots!

I'm in Alameda Wednesdays through Saturdays for $125 an hour.

Keep in mind the launch monitor is the ultimate club fitting tool. So if you're looking to improve your clubs we've got most of the top brands and our pricing is competitive.

New Golf Technology to Improve Game

Hi, Kris Moe here, I've just found a new toy called Game Golf (shot tracking software, yes cyber-metrics is coming to golf). I'm fascinated to see how as a coach I can make this work with my students.

Anyone is welcome to join me for a round this Thursday at Stevinson Ranch to test it out. I'm teeing off at noon and all you have to pay is the $50 green fee and that will include range balls. Just call or text to grab a spot or two.

I'm planning on making trips down to Stevinson through the year. It is 90 miles from Alameda so it's a drive but it's truly a great golf course and has one of the top practice facilities in California! I plan having a few golf schools there through the year and they have lodging there if you want to make it an over-nighter.

BTW- we just started doing regripping at Alameda so if you like to come over I'll show you all the grips we
have, fit your hand then have one of our staff put the grips on while you putt or hit some balls (about $8 a club). You can always reach me at kmoe@greenwaygolf.com or check out our website, www.alamedagolf.com

Here's a superb video if your digging too deep of a divot or leaving the ball out to the right, Trackman Maestro on Handle Dragging-

Radar Technology is Disrupting Golf and Golfers are Going to Benefit

New radar technology is disrupting golf

With the constant advancement of technology in golf it's never been a better time to be a golfer. Improving your ball striking and optimizing your equipment has never been easier (yes easier).

Why you may ask? You can thank the military for this since this new technology was originally designed by the military to track bullets and missiles and those systems have finally made it to golfers tracking their golf ball's flight and the specifics of the impact collision.

As a golf pro, long time golf teacher and golfer myself  I'm really excited to share these advancements with you to improve your game and equipment. In my own teaching I've de-prioritized the swing style of a golfer to focus on the impact numbers the radar gives us. And it's not just me, friends and colleagues, who were the "early adopters" and investors in the technology tell me the same thing, they teach less about swing style now and more about the bottom line, what's happening at impact. Nor more guessing and straight to the fix!

The Alameda Golf Complex is on the verge getting this technology delivered so you'll be able to see your measurements like launch angle, face direction and club path (over 20 data points). Even more you can cross that information with your actual ball flight onto our range rather than see it go into a net four yards in front of you. This is huge as any advanced player will tell you. Numbers can lie and don't necessarily create the perfect match for you since there so many other variables to consider for you to love your equipment (sound, flight, feel and trust).

We'll be fitting and teaching with the Foresight system so you too can get optimized like a tour player and get the most out of your game and your equipment.

Some fitting facts that directly benefit you that we in the industry didn't even know or had to guess at until the last year or two is the massive affect of missing the sweet spot by as little as 1/2 inch can cost you 7 yards in distance. And here's a few more fun facts about the new ball flight laws:

  • If you strike down too steeply on your irons you actually lose energy with contact on the ball
  • By simply moving more weight toward the inside of the club (the heel) you will hit more draws or hooks and visa-versa. You'll see this adjustment now on the new Callaway driver for instance
  • There is a ideal match of launch angle and ball spin that is different for each golfer and can make immediate distance gains of 15 yards plus
This week we're just getting in all the new equipment for fitting and demos. We'll be carrying all the top brands in drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons and wedges. And we hope to have it all available by mid-March.

So plan a visit soon to our Chuck Corica Golf Complex driving range to see the radar technology. It will blow your mind and get you excited for playing more golf this year.
